Issue 8: Artist Interview of Tee-saurus!!!

FEATURE BLOG: Singapore Artist

His real name is Lawrens Tan
Nick/Artist name Tee-saurus

When did you start and what makes you started?
We preplanned the brand way back in 2012, and decided to take it a step further by registering the business in 2014. We fell very hard on our startup that goes way back to 2008. That was one fall that we will never forget. We lost everything, trust and even the miscarriage of our twin child. BUt it was lucky we bit our teeth and continued on. We wanted to express and tell the world, it's ok to fall. Look at the world with a smile and keep going. That was what Tee-Saurus was all about. Never give up. That is also why a lot of our merchandise plays with humour.

Where does your Inspiration comes from?Everyday life and complaints, literally. We love transforming the negative to the positive

What is your best achievement?
We are proud to have won numerous awards for our work.
Tee-Saurus logo won a Bronze for our identity in the International A'Design in the Fashion, Garment and Apparel category for 2014/2015. Recently we have also won the Singaplural 2016 Recognition Showcase for our Singlish Office Buddy
In addition, our English Office Buddy had also won a Silver Award for the International A'Design Award for Idea Category.

Which is your personal favourite? Most probably it would be our Singlish Office Buddy, it's very close to heart because of the language we commonly use. And also it relates a lot to life. https://www.tee-saurus.com/collections/badge-design

Who inspires you?

My family. Who gives me interesting advice on life.
And also to my entrepreneur friends who are more successful than me. They are my advisers when I hit a wall.

JT Foxx - one of my coach in Business Building. I learnt a lot from him.

Iskandar Jalil - my lecturer way back in Temasek Poly. He is man of temper, but really passionate in his teachings. He challenges you to unleash your creativity and feel towards your works. Also he helps the needy by sponsoring for their studies. This is something I would also want to do in the near future.

Last Mr Chng, my Primary School Chinese Teacher. Without him, I would never been here. He was one teacher who said "There are no stupid people in the world, perhaps they are a bit slower." He stayed back everyday and tutored me. He never gave up on me. I would never forget his teachings and the fatherly love he provided.

Advice for aspiring artist?
It is never an easy journey to venture on the art life. But move forward with your belief and passion. Belief will move you forward, passion would help you innovate. When the road is tough, keep charging. Success comes to those who fight hard. Action speaks louder than mere talk. Don't try to analyse too much. When you want to do it, do it. That's how we paved our road. And lastly, enjoy the fun. Entrepreneurship should be fun, groundbreaking and exciting!
